Why Study Computing Science?

Computing Science is Changing the World

More and more of the every day devices we use rely on Computing Computing Science WorldScience to function. These include examples like desktop computers and games consoles, as well as some which are less obvious, such as mobile phones, cars and medical imaging devices. Each of these rely on Computing Science to store, transmit and manipulate information which is useful to us, and have had enourmous impact on the way we live, socialise and do business.

Computing Science and Software Engineering are young and CAT Scanexciting disciplines which are rapidly evolving. They include, amongst other things, theoretical studies of algorithms, experimental investigations in areas ranging from human-computer interaction to network performance, and practical engineering challenges in designing and implementing efficient, reliable software to meet specifications.

Science

Enigma machineComputing Science is the study of information and computation. The question underlying all of Computing is "What can be (efficiently) automated?"*. Computing Science focuses on the challenges of implementing solutions for computational problems. Although programming is a major part of Computing Science, it is just one of the tools available to solve these problems.
