The FERMI project will pay particular attention to training
activities. The most appropriate channels will be sought and
exploited. The training activities will have two objectives:
- to stimulate the Information Retrieval and Multimedia
Information Systems research community by reporting the results
of the research work conducted within the FERMI project.
International Conferences (SIGIR Conference, SIGMOD Conference,
Int. Conference on Multimedia Information Systems, VLDB Conference,
Hypermedia Conference, etc.), and International Journals (ACM TOIS,
ACM TODS, Information Processing and Management, etc.) seem appropriate
channels for the above activity. In addition the Summer School on
Information Retrieval, which is currently held every two years,
could be an appropriate event in which to present the main results
of FERMI. The Summer School could become a yearly event and establish
links with the FERMI project. This could be facilitated by the fact
that some of the organizers of the School also participate in the
FERMI project.
- to transfer the knowledge, the results and the achievements
of the FERMI project to the industrial world. This activity is of
particular importance since the FERMI project aims at contributing
towards the building up of the next generation of multimedia
information systems. Therefore, specific and concrete ways for
knowledge transfer to IT industries should be sought.
The FERMI consortium has tight links with the Network of Excellence
IDOMENEUS, in which GU-CS is responsible for the Technology Transfer
activities and CNR-IEI for the technical organisation of scientific
events, and the MIRO Working Group. These links will facilitate the
task of achieving both these objectives. Indeed, many of the training
activities based on the work carried out in the project work will be
operated through the Network.
