Dr Mark Dunlop

Position: Lecturer

Current Research Base:

• Continuing work on combinations of hypermedia and free text retrieval.
• Interested in user-oriented evaluation of modern retrieval engines and in spreading this work into the hypermedia area.
• Currently working on the nature of relevance feedback in a combined hypermedia and free text environment.
• Generally interested in the user side of IR and general human computer interaction issues.
• Working in a world class research department which has a strong infrastructure for research. Glasgow also has a very strong IR group and interactive systems (HCI/graphics/visualisation) group.

Experience in Research and Development:
Personally involved in the EU funded MIRO working group, FERMI project, KWICK project and IDOMENEUS Network of Excellent. I am also chair of the British Computer Society's specialist group on Information Retrieval. I have also taken part as an "expert" on DGXIII discussions in 1993 and carried out consultancy on interfaces for IR for the European Space Agency in Italy.
