Abstract:

This project investigates the use of wireless sensor nodes to create a ‘smart tracer’ for monitoring the effects of fluid flow on riverbed sediment. The hardware requirements of a mobile sensor node have been determined, and a software prototype of the system has been implemented in simulation and on an example node using TinyOS. The system has been used to demonstrate that the concept is feasible, and to lay the groundwork for future work in making a full hardware implementation of this system.

Keywords: wireless sensor networks, TinyOS, tracking
