As the result of some discussions among students and academic staff of the department,
the idea of a departmental research corner for research students has developed (again).
The research corner aims to provide a relaxed atmosphere for research students to converse
without the pressure of academic staff being present (except if they are giving a talk of course!).
This will provide a different environment for students when compared to the research groups.
It is hoped the research corner will be beneficial for students, but it needs to be arranged according to the their needs.
This is your opportunity to give us your opinion on the design of the research corner.
No matter what your position in the department, if you have an interest in the design of the research corner, we want to
hear from you!
It would be very much appreciated if you could complete this
QUESTIONNAIRE.
Further information on the ongoing process of redevelopment is provided below.
The research corner is intended to be a regular meeting of research students from all research groups of the Department of Computing Science. The duration and frequency of the meetings is not fixed yet, as we would like to encourage you to give your ideas on what would be most beneficial.
The intentions of the research corner are varied. Depending on the way it is designed, it could give the students an opportunity to do many things. Some examples of what it could be used for are:
Yes, there was a research corner before, but it is no longer active. There are multiple reasons for this and we have already received some positive feedback from previous attendees. However we are trying to get as much information as possible to avoid creating something which neither the research students nor their supervisors want or like.
This is where we need input to find out what YOU want. It would be great if you take the opportunity to provide comments using the QUESTIONNAIRE or you can email Stefan or Rosanne. We are open to any further suggestions and recommendations on how to plan the meetings.
