Call for Participation
Understanding and thereby manipulating, multimedia content at the semantic level is the only way towards realizing the full potential of emerging digital media technologies aimed at the delivery of compelling multimedia solutions. The integration of knowledge, semantics and low-level multimedia processing for the purpose of automatic semantics extraction from multimedia content is currently the subject of active research in academia and industry all over the world. The SSMS 2007 summer school, bringing together leading researchers and practitioners, provides postgraduate students the opportunity to gain deeper insight into the challenges related to multimedia semantics and the increasingly emerging applications relying on multimedia understanding, and to familiarize themselves with the diverse disciplines involved.
The Summer School consists of lectures, discussions and interactions with guest lecturers recognised as experts in their fields. Participants will be provided with a copy of all course lectures and access to a PC with all necessary tools and environments pre-installed. Each participant is also required to prepare a poster to present their recent research activities. These will be displayed during the poster sessions (see programme) and should encourage an exchange of ideas and establish new partnerships.
Course Topics
- Content processing, multimodal techniques, high dimensionality reduction, low-level feature fusion
- Knowledge-driven content-based, natural language and speech cross-processing
- Multimedia and the Semantic Web
- Multimedia analysis and annotation ontologies
- Knowledge-based, context aware inference for semantic multimedia analysis
- Scalable multimedia semantic metadata representation and content transmission
- Semantic adaptation, personalization and retrieval
