UK games developers will get their first chance to see samples from VIRTUAL CLONES™ first ever catalog of pixel perfect digital characters at ECTS, the Game Developers Conference Europe, held at Earls Court London, Thursday 29th to Saturday 31st August. VIRTUAL CLONES™ delivers the most realistic lifelike characters ever seen in a game environment characters by using ultra-high resolution 3D scans of real people.

The Scottish start-up company stunned everyone at SIGGRAPH last month with the eerie fidelity and unbelievable detail of their virtual character models. The company has had enquiries from several key industry players since returning from Texas and is looking forward to recruiting more European based licensees.

Founder Colin Urquhart said " VIRTUAL CLONES™ first ever catalog of virtual characters will enable developers to populate their games with hundreds of fantastically detailed characters. This will not only significantly reduce the time and cost of developing the next generation of games but will also provide a much more realistic and personalized gaming experience."

 1 9   j u l y   0 2   :   Unveiling Revolutionary Virtual Character Creation Technology
Virtual human characters that are indistinguishable from real life people take a step closer to reality with revolutionary technology being launched this week. The technology, developed by VIRTUAL CLONES™, will be unveiled at SIGGRAPH 2002, the annual gathering of the international computer graphics community being held in San Antonio, Texas.

The technology:

The revolutionary technology creates highly detailed and life-like virtual character models of real life people that are ready to be dropped directly into existing 3D modeling and animation software packages, enabling the next generation of Lara Crofts, Ananovas and Dr Aki Rosses for the computer games, internet, film and advertising markets. VIRTUAL CLONES™ solution addresses the problems traditionally associated with 3D scanning by combining instantaneous, extremely high resolution, 3D capture with proprietary semi-automatic re-meshing software.

Meeting industry needs:

The entertainment industry is demanding ever more detailed and realistic virtual characters. As a result, it is becoming increasingly difficult and expensive to produce them. 3D scanning of real life people has long been seen by the industry as a potential solution for creating highly realistic virtual characters, however, the inadequacies of 3D scanning technology have, until now, prevented its widespread use.

Dr Colin Urquhart, the founder of VIRTUAL CLONES™, explains: "VIRTUAL CLONES™ has the potential to revolutionize the interactive entertainment industry. Our technology makes it possible to create the most realistic virtual characters of real life people ever seen. And we can do it more quickly, conveniently and cost effectively than ever before".

VIRTUAL CLONES™ will be at Booth 6090, SIGGRAPH 2002, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, San Antonio, Texas.
