About Us

Polytechnic meets at Wellington Church Hall, 77 Southpark Avenue, Glasgow G12 8LE (map). Wellington Church is easily identified as a Greek-style building (photo) located on the corner of University Avenue and Southpark Avenue, in the west end of Glasgow.

Most of our meetings are in the library (the first room on the left beside the entrance). Larger meetings such as the quick-plays are in the adjacent main hall.

Meetings are on Thursdays throughout the chess season, which extends from late September to late April, with a break for Christmas and New Year. Competitive play normally starts at 19:30, but the room is open from 19:15 to 22:15 to allow for setting up and putting away the chessboards.

Travel

There are ample car parking spaces (free of charge in the evening) on Southpark Avenue and University Avenue.

Wellington Church Hall is very close to bus stops on University Avenue, and 5 to 10 minutes walk from Hillhead and Kelvinbridge Underground Stations.
