Biography

I am currently a postdoctoral research assistant in the Multimodal Interaction Group working on the MobileVCE project at the University of Glasgow. My research in MobileVCE is focused on user collaboration and different feedback modalities. Prior to this I worked on the EU funded Semedia project as part of the Information Retrieval Group also at the University of Glasgow. My work for SEMEDIA focused on interactive video retrieval, including recommender systems for video search, novel interfaces and understanding user issues for multimedia retrieval. I have a PhD in Computer Science which I received from UCD in 2007 for a thesis entitled "Improving Navigation in the Mobile-Web by Exploiting Temporal Regularities". The focus of this thesis was to use time as a factor in personalisation services available for menu navigation on mobile devices.

To date the majority of my research has straddled the areas of human-computer interaction and information retrieval. In the course of my brief career to date, I have carried out research in a number of areas including mobile web browsing, intelligent user interfaces, recommender systems, tagging, multimodal interfaces, multimedia search, interaction and browsing. I have experience of developing software and techniques, designing and executing user evaluations and publishing results of my work in hight quality publications.
