In 1996, I graduated from the Department of Computing Science at the University of Glasgow with a B.Sc. honours degree in Software Engineering.

I have recently completed a Ph.D. which focuses on context sensitive evaluation (or selection) of user interface development tools. Prior to this, I worked here as a research assistant on the Teallach Project which was an EPSRC funded investigation into the provision of generic support for the development of user interfaces to ODMG-compliant object-oriented database applications. It was during this period that I began my own Ph.D. research. Working within the Multimodal Interaction Group, I worked as a Research Assistant responsible for developing guidelines to support the use of sound - in particular the use of a purpose-built toolkit of sonically-enhanced widgets - within user interface design. Furthering my work in this field, I am now conducting research into the use of audio feedback to enhance 2-dimensional gesture recognition, particularly when the gesture recognition system is running on a mobile device such as a handheld device or wearable computer.

I am a member of the GIST research group research group within the department.
