Personal Page

Will the real Jon Ritchie please stand up.
It's always been hard to explain what I do but here are some of my interests.

Music

I mostly play clarinet and saxophone - here are some of the groups I'm currently enjoying playing with. All are available for events, receptions or parties - mail me if you'd like to know more.

Saxophone

Red Hot Swing Big Band
This Glasgow based band was formed in 2005 by regular Big Band players from central scotland. It performs mostky at weddings and functions.

KVO Big Band,
The KVO are a community band from Kirkintilloch. mainstay of the band's work are charity events and you'll find them playing most Wednesday nights somewhere around Glasgow.

The Hume
The Hume Saxophone Quartet was formed in 2004 with the specific idea to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe- although we're also the perfect group music at weddings and corporate events and parties anywhere in Scotland :-). The group has a distinct computing science bias as three of the four, Lorna Brown, newbie, Eve Hoggan, and myself are all members of DCS. Claire Hughes our tenor player (and vet in real life) has managed to cope with that though :-)

Baricuda
Possibly one of the most unusual ensembles around. Five baritone saxophones that produce a sound that has to be heard to be believed.
Check out our soundbites >>

Clarinet

Chalumeau
The clarinet quartet Chalumeau brings together 4 players from hugely differing musical influences.

Ayrshire Clarinet Choir
Since 1987 the Ayrshire Clarinet Choir has been providing entertaining music for a variety of events.

Obesa Cantavit
The clarinet duo Obesa Cantavit was formed in 1995 by myself and Carron Shankland for a one-off performance but we enjoyed it so much however that we ended up playing in Canada, Spain, Australia, The Netherlands and Ireland.
We also did The Great Scottish Clarinet Caper- a mad rush round 26 different venues thoughout Scotland in 3 days for BBC Music Live. Over the past year Obesa has explored an interesting and vibrant mix of styles - why not book us now:-)?

Other blowie things
I recently interested in recorder and whistle music I'm striclty a descant recorder player but have been exploring both the penny whistle and Low Whistles with a variety of groups. If you need a whistler drop me a line.

Theatre

Front Room Theatre Company
A group of ne'er do wells that got together with an everso silly idea. The concept is simple, you have the venue, we have the show - FRTC is happy to appear in your front room this weekend :-)

Pitlochry Festival Theatre
Since 1995 I've had an interest in Pitlochry Festival Theatre as musician and webmaster.

Royal Infirmary Players
One minute I was taking X-rays the next I was organising shows at the Fringe . The tale of a bunch of medics who found themselves operating in a very different theatre.

Microlighting
Suddenly the cows got a lot smaller - Gary Gray and I decided that we'd had enough ground hugging and thanks to the expertise of Colin McKinnon (and no-thanks the the weather ) we have finally started flying out of Cumbernauld Airport with Microlight Scotland.
Here are some piccies of our first flights & here I am leaving the ground for the first time :-)
small (292k) - medium(576k) - large (2,1Mb)

Tropical Fish
I've a 6 foot fish tank and a couple of really big fish - no pictures of the tank online at the moment but here's one of my other aquatic interest.

Motorcycles
Currently got a Kawasaki GPZ 305 resting in the garage.

Stamp Collecting
These days my stamp collecting is limited to first day covers - I finally decided that philately was getting me nowhere.

Running
OK I'll admit that I'm not really that much of a runner, I get bored too easily, so I'm always looking out for lunchtime running buddies. Mail me if you're up for a slow jog round Glasgow's West End:-). Information on all of this year's annual Glasgow road races can be found at http://www.runglasgow.org/

Bloggie type stuff -
The Ritchies Down Under - our firs trip to Australia and New Zealand resulted in discovering more relatives than you could shake a stick at - and in a second trip within six months to try and catch up with the rest:-)
The Ritchies Down Under I (Dec-Jan 2004-5)
The Ritchies Down Under II (July 2005)
