My Research Group
Marilyn Rose McGee

Multimodal Interaction Group

We are all interested in multimodal human-computer interaction.

What we are doing is investigating the use of various senses to communicate information in human-computer interaction. In particular, we are studying the often neglected senses of hearing and touch. This page will tell you about what each of us are doing and will provide links to our pages.

Steve

Research Interests:

Multimodal Human-Computer Interaction, sound and haptics.
I have done a lot of research into Earcons, a particular form of non-speech sounds.

Phil

Research Interests:

My main research interest is in UIST (user interface software technology),
especially software and notational tools for user interface construction. I dabble in system evaluation and educational computing, too.

Marilyn

Research Interests:

The cognitive impact of multimodal interfaces.

The combinations of and interactions between our senses. In particular, sight, sound, and touch.

Murray

Research Interests:

Investigating the design and evaluation of a toolkit of multi-modal widgets.

Gregory

Research Interests:

Principles to improve interaction with telephone-based interfaces.

Navigation in non-visual interfaces, use of non-speech sound, combination with speech.

Ian

Research Interests:

Virtual reality and force feedback from an HCI point of view.

Andrew Crossan

Research Interests:

Virtual Reality and force feedback in veterinary simulations.

Ashley

Research Interests:

Perception - in particular, how the structure of an environment affords opportunities for interaction.

I approach this topic from two directions: (i) the design (and modeling) of sensors and (ii) the design and testing of human computer interfaces.
