Newcastle Challenge

EDINBURGH'S UNIVERSITY Challenge team will take on Newcastle University in the quarter-finals of the TV quiz show on Monday.

Edinburgh began their campaign this year with a first-round loss to Christ's College, Cambridge.

However, they then came back to beat Hull University in a playoff of highest-scoring losing teams, and subsequently defeated Wadham College, Oxford in the second round.

The Newcastle match will be broadcast on Monday 28 January at 8pm on BBC2, and will be shown on the TV in the Middle Bar at Teviot for those who want to watch with members of the team.

The Edinburgh team is made up of Mary Ellen Foster (captain), a PhD student in Informatics; Andrew Gregory, studying for a general MA; Hugo Warner, Law; David Griffith, Medicine; and the reserve, Simon Ingram, who is studying History.

The team was chosen following a university-wide selection test last March.
