52.219 NQ Scheme

The course work (the labs) is an integral part of the course, and has been put in place for your benefit. There will be a number of pieces of course work, typically one every two weeks, and you should complete these within the allotted time (typically two weeks). At the end of the allotted time I will post a solution to the exercises, and work will not be accepted after that event.

In most cases the course work will require you to produce some Scheme code, but generally you will be able to do this by reusing code given to you (in /home/s7/pat/scheme/pub/*.scm).

You will not have completed the course unless you have passed the exam AND completed at least half of the course work on time. Therefore there are 4 scenarios:

1. Pass exam and complete at least 50% of course work on time. You have a credit for the course

2. Pass exam but complete less than 50% of course work. Additional course work must then be completed.

3. Fail exam and complete at least 50% of course work on time. Pass resit exam to get credit.

4. Fail exam and complete less than 50% of course work. Pass resit exam and do additional course work to get credit.

Outstanding Course Work (OCW)

If you have failed to complete the minimum required course work for 1st semester you will then have Outstanding Course Work (OCW). I will then set you additional work to do over the summer months (typically August) with a deadline attached. Failure to complete that work will result in 52.219 failure.

Ongoing Information

I will make postings to strath.cs.ugrad.alg to let you know about exercises, deadlines, etc ... so please be a regular reader of that newsgroup. Be aware that you can use the sun lab at any time between the hours of 9.00 to 22.00 Monday through to Friday (as far as I am aware) but if some other lab is in progress (and you are not scheduled into that lab) you may have to give up your workstations. (Note: make sure that you are allowed access after hours, whatever that might now be.)

I will endeavour to post exercises well in advance of your labs so that you can time to prepare for the lab.
