For many years the usability of data intensive systems, particularly database systems, lagged behind the data management facilities. Recently products such as Microsoft Access have provided a wider range of interaction techniques for setting up, managing and using data. Even so, the provision of user interfaces is typically unstructured and unsystematic. We seek here more generic user interface provision, with systematic mechanisms for their implementation.
