Stuart Chalmers

Mini-Biog

I was born in Paisley, and went to Williamsburgh primary school and then on to Paisley Grammar School. After that I started at Paisley University (now the University Of West Of Scotland In Paisley) and was there for 5 years. As part of my degree I worked for 1 year as an applications programmer at Mitsui Babcock (now Doosan Babcock Energy Limited).

After graduating from Paisley Uni I worked as a production line worker for a year at Compaq computers putting together motherboards.

I then went to Aberdeen University to do an Msc in Intelligent Systems and Applications and stayed there for around 10 years, first to do my Ph.D. and then as a Researcher on the Conoise/Conoise-G projects.

From August 2005 to November 2006 I worked as part of the Advanced Knowledge Technologies (AKT) project in Aberdeen, then as part of the International Technology Alliance (ITA) project, looking at the use of constraint programming in network & information sciences. I also worked during this time as a teaching fellow, lecturing on Web Technology.

After leaving Aberdeen I went to Gothenburg, Sweden to work as part of a project with SP Technical Research Institute & Chalmers University. This involved in design of a large-scale communication architecture for Volvo/SAAB/Scania driving simulators using Ontologies and Semantic Web technology.

More recently I've been working back in the UK in Scotland with Dr. Iadh Ounis and Dr. Norman Gray on the Explicator project, developing techniques to provide intelligent access to foreign data models within the areas of astronomy and high energy physics.

I used the "flickr badge" code to display the above thumbnails (and those on the front page), but I had to change it slightly to make it xhtml compatible. Here's the changed xhtml compatible version
