DAVID R. WHITE
Student Supervision
I am currently co-supervising the project of Ilze Poca. Ilze is implementing an evolutionary image compression algorithm based on the work of Roger Alsing, as well as extending Roger's work in new directions.
In the past, I have been fortunate enough to work with the following students and interns:
- Harry Esslemont - investigating the impact of noise on heuristic search.
- Alan Millard - genetic evolution of stochastic models.
- Sam Ratcliffe - searching for invariants using genetic programming.
Current Lecturing
I am course coordinator and lecturer on the Research Readings in Computer Science (RRCS) course, where students read a total of 38 papers over the semester and discuss topics across the whole spectrum of Computer Science.
I was also a guest lecturer on the SE3 course on Software Engineering.
Past Lecturing
During my time at the University of York, I lectured on heuristic search and evolutionary computation. I also taught labs on various topics including Real-Time Systems, Discrete Maths, Introductory Programming and UML Modelling.
