My work interests include ..
  • Peer Assisted Learning, P.A.L. ( Steve Draper has an excellent compilation of notes and pointers on PAL here).
  • Teaching introductory computer programming at University.
  • Retention of students within the Faculty.
  • The Computing Science Inside project.

    Brief Biography

I grew up in Alexandria and attended the Vale of Leven Academy.
I studied Computing Science here at Glasgow University from 1992 - 1996, then worked for a year as a Research Assistant in the Glasgow Accident Analysis Group.
From 1997 - 2001 I worked towards my PhD ( The Suffix Binary Search Tree), supervised by Rob Irving. During this time I was a member of Algorithms and Complexity Group .
I have also worked on temporary contracts with Philips and Telelogic.
From 2001 - 2005 I worked in the School of Computer Science in what is now the Bristol Institute of Technology within the University of West of Engand.
After a few years of being back in Scotland being a domestic goddess staying at home looking after my two little monsters I am really happy to be back home working at Glasgow University!

I am married to Adam, who I met back in the days of this dodgy punk-ska (not ska-punk) band. He is now a respectable middle aged man (ouch) - a software consultant for Turnkey in East Kilbride, continuing his part time football career with Arabfc.
After living in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bristol, Chipping Sodbury, Alexandria and Stonehouse, we have finally settled in Dumbarton (for just now!). We have two young boys - Jed (4 years old) and Lex (2 years old).
Barney (a.k.a. Badger who we adopted from the Bath Cat and Dog Home is now being treated like a prince by our good friends John and Ruth in Falkirk.

I have somehow ended up with profiles on Bebo, Myspace ( twice!), Live Journal, and Facebook.
Finally, here is the obligatory page full of cute photos of my wee boys!
