I am a post-doctoral researcher in information retrieval. My current research focuses on retrieval and mining from temporal corpora, such as social media and news. I am currently a research assistant for the Integrated Multimedia City Data (iMCD) project, under the Glasgow Urban Big Data Research Centre (UBDC), funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council.

I am passionate about theoretical and practical information retrieval research. I have worked on developing and exploiting a variety of information retrieval techniques, such as probabilistic modelling, query reformulation, selective models for ranking, and learning-to-rank in order to improve retrieval performance of a search system.

My PhD research focused on ranking patients based on the relevance of their medical records. Searching from medical records is an emerging field, which results from the adoption of electronic health records worldwide. I am excited about this research, as medical records have unique characteristics that traditional search approaches could not deal with effectively (e.g. the use of negated language).

I have also worked on retrieval and text mining from social media, such as Twitter and Facebook. For instance, uncovering tweeting patterns regarding a particular event.
