Welcome

Welcome to the home page of the SSPNet Summer School on Social Signal Processing, June 3-7 2013, IIASS, Vietri sul Mare (Italy).

Social Signal Processing (SSP) is the interdisciplinary computing domain aimed at modelling, analysis and synthesis of nonverbal behavior in social interactions. The mission of the school is to provide interested researchers, in particular PhD students and researchers at the earliest stages of their career, with an extensive introduction to the three core areas of SSP:

  • Modelling: the study of laws and principles underlying social interactions and the role that nonverbal behavior plays in these
  • Analysis: investigation and development of automatic approaches for extraction and interpretation of nonverbal behavoral cues in data captured with microphones, cameras and any other suitable sensor
  • Synthesis: automatic generation of appropriate nonverbal behavior via different forms ef embodiment like conversational agents, robots, etc.
Besides being a chance for interacting with some of the most important experts of the domain, the school will be an opportunity to network with a large number of colleagues interested, from the most diverse and interdisciplinary points of view, in human-human and human-machine communication.
