The First International Workshop on Edge Computing & Computational Intelligence (ECCI 2020) is held in conjunction with the IEEE WCCI 2020, 19 - 24 July 2020, Glasgow, UK

ABOUT

The emerging development of intelligent applications in Internet of Things (IoT) has now started to gain significant attention, while the forthcoming emergence of Internet over Everything (IoE) will extend the capabilities of the ‘legacy’ IoT, its potentials, the number of devices and the volumes of data at the network Edge. Edge Computing (EC) and Computational Intelligent (CI) originating from different areas can materialize the desired distributed and ubiquitous intelligence in real computing systems. Since EC technologies face various challenges and open issues, we then need additional effort to establish and deliver the convergence of EC and CI in formatting the future Intelligent Edge. The Intelligent Edge is envisioned to involve numerous autonomous, distributed computing, and context reasoning entities capable of understanding their internal status (context), the status of their environment and peers (collaborative context), and take timely optimized actions to efficiently serve modern applications, like tactile internet and augmented AI-led gaming.

An Intelligent Edge infrastructure is the key challenge for deploying intelligence-aware and modern IoT applications at the envisioned massive scale. Some of future challenges and open issues include data & context interoperability, machine & statistical learning models explainability and interpretability, intelligence-led resource management, orchestration and coordination of distributed data processing & knowledge sharing tasks, ubiquitous service discovery, efficient and trust-based distributed decision making.

The overarching aim of the first International Workshop on Edge Computing & Computational Intelligence (ECCI) is hosting novel solutions towards the convergence of the EC paradigm and CI materializing the future Intelligent Edge bringing together scientists & scholars to discuss the future research directions in the domain, propose the theoretical models of this convergence, and present current potential solutions. The ECCI Workshop aims at detecting the key research questions related to the intelligent management of an ecosystem of computational intelligence edge nodes capable of autonomously interacting with future IoT and Cloud computing environments. A critical issue is the synergies among collaborating edge nodes in a collective intelligence manner that should face all the modelling, heterogeneity, network and decision-making challenges.

The topics of the ECCI Workshop are concentrated on (but not limited to) the following themes:

  • Theoretical Models for Edge Intelligence
  • Computational Intelligence at the Network Edge
  • Edge Infrastructure Modelling for Computational Intelligence
  • Distributed Artificial Intelligence at the Intelligent Edge
  • Distributed Machine Learning at the Intelligent Edge
  • Intelligent Decision Making at the EC
  • Intelligent Data & Tasks Management at the EC
  • Computational Intelligence for Trust Computing at the Edge
  • Bio-inspired Computing for Edge Intelligence
  • Self-* Intelligent Networked Systems in EC
  • Swarm Intelligence in EC Environments & Applications
  • Collective Intelligence & Applications at the EC
  • Collaborative Context-aware Applications at the EC
  • Applications of Autonomous Systems for EC Environments
