Project Aims

The main aim of the research in this project is to build on the work by the CLG and investigate the value and effectiveness of prevention and protection measures and activities used in commercial, public and heritage buildings with the view of improving decision making on the allocation of resources within the context of IRMP.

Therefore the different stages in the project could be summarised as follows:

  1. Identify evidence bases to assess the effectiveness of prevention and protection measures
  2. Investigate the effects of fire and rescue service resource allocation on safety and loss
  3. Develop a methodology for decision making regarding the allocation of resources for fire safety
  4. Develop a methodology for the evaluation of cost effectiveness of prevention and protection measures used in the built environment

The information gathered, as well as the developed methodologies will therefore contribute to the the main outcome of this research. Which will be the development of tools that will support the FRS in decision making regarding: the value of prevention and protection measures in the built environment; and the allocation of resources for fire safety interventions.
