Research

My doctoral research focuses on the use of social media applications in the context of emergency management. Therefore, I am currently analysing emergency management frameworks in order identify recurring events and activities in emergencies and disasters, to which the use of social media applications prove beneficial. Additionally, I am analysing the impact of new communication technologies on crisis communications, e.g. in the context of warning and informing the public.

Further research areas of interest include:
  • Collective Intelligence using Social Media Applications
  • Open Source Intelligence / Information Filtering & Analysis
  • Emergency & Disaster Management
  • Socio Technical Systems / Social Informatics
  • Information Visualisation for Control Room Environments
  • Critical Infrastructures

Previous research aimed to support the computational risk assessment for the UK Fire and Rescue Services. Thereby, I worked on research topics such as information exchange in government IT systems, information visualisation, cost-benefit analysis and resource allocation in public services.
